Having a clear, clean face is something every one wants. For some people, it’s the core of their self esteem. It’s amazing how much is spent on products to keep our faces pimple free! And if you’re desperate, it’s even more amazing how much you’re willing to spend.

But you don’t have to!
Skin types are different, so you may have to try different things and experiment to figure out what works best for you, but once you find your niche, prepare to love it!
Another thing to prepare for is not falling for advertising on beauty products. See a commercial boasting clear skin if you buy their product? Think about it, they have every weapon in their arsenal; gorgeous models, lighting, make-up and last but certainly not least, photo/camera editing. And don’t think they won’t use it. Their goal is to make you want what they’re selling, and they only have seconds to do it.

Here’s another thing to think about. Let’s say you find a facial mask that claims to have avocado and vitamin E. Look at the ingredients. The closest to the top of the list is most potent.  So if there’s a list of 16 ingredients and avocado is the 10th…you certainly aren’t getting as much nutrients as you would if you bought an avocado, mashed it and spread it on your face! On top of that, a lot of the ingredients in that face mask are to give it texture, fragrance, shelf-life and color.

So try frugal, make your own beauty treatments, and enjoy getting raw nutrition for your skin!

*If you end up with red splotchy skin from a reaction, take a paper towel and dip it into cold milk. Dab this gently onto your face. When it starts to dry, rinse with cool water and repeat until your face calms down. It should be within about ½ hour depending on how bad it is.
