Did you know your skin is the largest organ? It holds you together, regulates your temperature, protects you from the elements. Something with this big of a job certainly deserves some extra thought and care.

You may not be aware that you’re caring for your skin in a way that may be harming it instead….

Did you realize that soap in the store is not in actuality, soap? Bona fide soap is made from fats (natural oils) and lye which then forms glycerin and is wonderful for moisturizing and cleansing the skin. Most stores take the glycerin out and sell it, then they add synthetic ingredients to their bars which is much cheaper for them, but can be very harsh on the skin. What you have left is similar to a detergent bar and less like an actual soap.

Now unless you’re a fan of washing with laundry or dish detergent, I can’t imagine you’re jumping up and down at the moment. Is it such a surprise? Somebody should seriously come up with at least a semester in college on exactly how to interpret labeling of products in the store.

Now that I’ve told you this, I won’t be leaving you up a creek without a paddle. There are lots of people who make soap with natural oils in their own homes to sell online. My mother actually does and I love using her soap! She makes it with goat milk giving it a very smooth and silky texture, which leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. Look for homemade soap online or drop by my mom's store.

Tip!
Use a clean washcloth every time you shower, not a loofah! They may be cute and fun to use, but they trap and hold bad bacteria.
